The Position:
Performs the fabrication process on metal components (carbon, steel, galvaneal, stainless steel, etc.
), using several types of general and specific equipment, in the production of semi-trailers.
Typical equipment used consists of brake presses, shears, and additional specialized equipment that allows for the shaping or cutting of metal components.
Requirements:
o Ability to accurately read a tape measure and other measuring tools.
o Must be competent in math to add, subtract, multiply, and divide all units of measure - whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
o Skill and ability to operate fabrication equipment.
A test may be given to assess this capability.
o Must be able to recognize specified punches and dies for parts to be fabricated.
o Ability to effectively prepare surfaces to be fabricated o Ability to read labels and instructions, as well as complete various written documentation including readings, reports, blueprints, work orders, and other forms.
o Aptitude to learn/retain new information, as well as follow instructions given verbally or in writing.
Responsibilities:
o Fabricate metal components that are used in building a trailer by using specialized machinery and equipment.
o Based on instructions and/or drawings, plan the setup and operation of all types of fabrication equipment to include various shears, brake presses, drill presses, and Whitney punch/plasma machines.
o Move components and large containers using various material handling equipment to include overhead cranes, forklifts, manual or powered carts, trolley systems, or by carrying materials by hand.
o Accurately input measurements into computerized devices and performs measurement calculations on material to 1/16th of an inch.
o Clean and maintain the work area, machines, tools and equipment.
o Recognize and identify differences in a variety of raw metal materials.
o Observe all safety and security procedures.
